The guy from yesterday

He's bold like the rebel from the 70s,
He's all prim and proper within,
He dazzles when the world's the audience,
He moves like original sin.

His words are enamel-coated,
Not a syllable out of place,
There isn't a style he can't pull off,
Not a situation he can't ace

All the pretty things line up
Each time he does his thing,
With the menacing grace of a Mustang,
He gets his way without the bling

He's passion brewed with self-confidence,
And just a hint of smooth,
He's every good thing from the past,
With a tiny sliver of rude

He'll make you go weak in the knees,
He'll always have his way,
He couldn't be more perfect if he tried,

My guy from yesterday.

A rhyme of contradictions

Every time I think I mustn't ponder any more,
Fight the demons, and win the war
Each time somewhere the conscious breaks,
And goes out on a tangent.
Each time I think I will not try,
To reach the sky and learn to fly,
The bitter resolve just fades away,
And I am far from content.

Every instance of the plural,
Makes my mind just flip and whirl,
While slowly my life depletes to none,
And the abstruse comes a-calling,
The sounds of love bring me to real,
And I suddenly start to feel,
The deepest thoughts just cannot hold,
While I just keep on falling..

The inconclusive broken path,
That I traverse with the coldest heart,
Just breaks into a song of old,
And dances like amourous breathing.
There seems like nothing ever changed,
And I end up some more deranged,
The seasons just go floating past,
Like my transformations' unceasing.

Epilogue:

Destiny must come to rule,
Another day, another fool,
Loathing reason in every way,
She just smiles and comes to play,
Caught up in a desperate run,
All she wants is a little fun,
All conflicting she must leave,
As these stories she does weave,
Taking lives along the way,
We can have but little say,
Promises experience,
While we walk in wilful trance..

The day that hope died

The earth's a barren wasteland,
The rivers have now run dry,
Creatures of every concievable sin,
Roam the scarlet sky,
The little drops of yellow rain,
The tiny old woman cried,
Scorned the worn out souls of good,
The day that hope died.

The cruel jabs of fortitude,
Attack the lights of now,
The evil laugh of destruction,
Are the sweat in the workman's brow,
The putrid smells of silence,
When the last honest man lied,
The world we knew just melt away,
The day that hope died...

Fleeting love

Morning sunshine
The clink of a cup
Hot tea with no milk
Entwined in smoke
Raging embers
And conversation
Out on the balcony
With fair contemplation

Twisted commonality
Gifted pain
A pause in the regular
Seemingly insane
Endlessly gasping
For a dollop of air
Fleeting love
Just seems unfair

Holding on to the times
Of fantasy like none before
Of fascination
Of a different kind of love
A touch of excitement
A look of fervor
Drops of lust
As we get in the shower

Bathed in sunshine
Lost in time
Spent together
With no cause in mind
Breathing deep
In the fragrant last night
Waiting for the next
In evening light

Holding on
As time slips away
To inevitable reality
To another today
The pieces move interchangeably
While the heart's frozen in time
A longing remains
And a love sublime !!

The typical Nerd

I’ve been a thousand places and seen a million things,

I’ve met a hundred people, done a dozen crazy things

I’ve tried to mask my past fallacies, with a miracle load of shallow,

Tried to hide the things I know, just to go with the flow,

I’m sure no one’s tried so hard to be a part of the herd,

Times have changed but I still remain, the typical nerd.

I’ve spent so long in the dowdy recesses, where “that” kind of humans go,

I’ve spent a lot of effort in doing things I know were wrong,

I’ve let the others mould me into what they thought was cool,

And ended up just figuring out, that I was the only fool,

I’ve tried to understand me, why I need to be part of the herd,

But, times have changed and I still remain, the typical nerd.

In my journeys I’ve learnt so many things, in the geeky sort of way,

Felt the mountain winds rush through my bones, watched the hermit crabs play,

Up on stage in front of hundreds, I’ve held my head high,

I’ve spent so many hours, deciphering the sky,

After this I saw reason, how I was different from the herd,

Times may change, and though I’ve tried, I’m the typical nerd.

I’m the artsy sort of fellow, who sees beauty in the sea,

And now I’ve come to realize, this is what I want to be,

I want to know just why things are going right or wrong,

And I can ponder through a million things, in the length of a pretty song,

I have happily given up by now, trying to be part of the herd,

Times have changed and I love being, the typical nerd !

This time next year

This time next year I want a feeling

Of plenitude and abundance,

Of a lack of monetary concerns,

And the trust in fate and chance.

This time next year I want to be

In a position of certain authority,

More learned than I ever was

And recognized by a majority.

This time next year I need to have

A bond far greater than friendship,

A red-golden hue of the world in my mind,

To look forward to a honeyed trip.

This time next year I must really give

A calmer mind to those who care,

About the future that I haven’t seen,

I must assure them that it’s there.

This time next year I’ll have many a dreams,

And many a rhyme shall float quietly by,

Many a lesson to learn and teach,

Many a twisted routes to fly.

This time next year I’ll look back to now,

When so very little I knew of tomorrow,

And wonder at the wonders of heaven,

That showed me all the paths to follow.

Yet till then, I stand and wait,

Staring at the sky with little fear,

Lost in brightly coloured yesterdays,

And in the thoughts of this time next year..

Nocturnal deviation

The Reality

A strange part of the day, hangover from a jetlag that never was

The body’s lost the insomnia, but the mind’s hooked on to the midnight calm,

Magical alternate realities culminating from a light breeze

True love from a million yesterdays crop up with ease

Fruitless analysis of the events that have long passed me by

Disappear into the fragrant breeze that leaves me high

Contorted thoughts of love and life starts to form in my heart

Right out of a cheap novel’s most ludicrous part

Endless possibilities make my being more and more fragile

As I lose myself in the everlasting mile.

Delusions

I think I see you there asleep in the cold

Wrapped in warm monochrome blankets and wisdom old

And soon you disappear with the blink of my eye

And a thousand colours seem to float by

I steady myself in that distant dream

And find myself running from that paramour extreme

Holding the pieces of a melting heart

That some mythical hero had taken apart

I crash into the good thoughts of the honourable one

And stay trapped for eternity, can never run

Living life backwards and facing the past

Is not something that I can stand to last

A foray back into an altered state

A yearning of the smells of a strange kind of sin

Comes together with the need to lose all on a whim

Till the heat of the liquid has burnt my soul

I shall crawl back to where I always fall

Disturbed by the thought, that the rhyme creates

I metamorphose each second through numerous states

And then I try to end my midnight rant

I wish I could but I just can’t ……….
